Dark Clouds

Lute FP Another killer album by a band that I am late to discover.

While their debut LP was a celebration of all things 70s hard blues rock, this is a serious departure into the progressive side of things. No noodling about, however. It reminds me most of a genre I may or may not have coined called ‘College Rock’, the typical elements of which being technical proficiency, the inspiration of youth, killer songwriting, and a positive attitude.

This band definitely doesn’t want to be pigeonho

Jamie Gilsrud Great album. This band has taken blues and modernized it in a way that gives them a distinguished sound.

Next Thing I Know and she was in my head, Like she saw right through me ‘fore one word was said, But girl I won’t go, go on and be misled, So why try to fight when I can play along instead? Next Thing I Know and I was hypnotized, I think it seems she caught me all by surprise, Man you don’t know, you haven’t even seen her eyes, You see the way she looks, I know that it’ll be my demise, Next Thing I Know and she was by my side, And with just one touch I’d cross that great divide, Just let it go, you know it can’t be denied, So want to give me the wheel and then I’ll take you for a ride?

Anger 05:53
Anger, and such frustration, I’m followed by the rules everywhere I go, Can’t ask me why, because no one knows, If this whole world is arbitrary at least participation is voluntary, You can put that in my obituary or in your pipe to smoke, I am suffocating, You know I got the blues down in my bones, Nothing makes me cry, not any more, Try to put me in my place, and I will laugh right in your face, Just don’t think for a second that you’ll get away, ‘cause I can’t be erased I’ll crack a smile right through your grin, But it’s coming back again, I know I can’t win, Though it’s no use don’t hurt to try, And much to my surprise I still got some fight, I got that- you beat me down, You’re spinning me around, and you shut me out, But take my advice, go back to your hole, Try to take control and you will find your soul is broke, So how’s it feel to be all alone and the butt of a lousy joke? I’ll crack a smile right through your grin, But it’s coming back again, I know I can’t win, Sure you can try to twist your knife, But everything’s all right, I’ll live on in spite…

Out Of Time 04:42
Well there was a time when a line of rhyme Would go so far as to change your mind, Now I can’t decide what I must confide, And now there’s nowhere left for me to hide, Oh, you know, if I’m all alone, I’ll just keep on climbing… If I could send a message from my soul to yours, Cut it all out and get straight to the source So you could understand, Yeah, you could understand, But oh, I know, if I let it show, You’ll just think I’m lying… Yeah? I’ll try one more time to get my words out right, I can’t sleep, I’m wired and it’s the middle of the night, If you could hear me now, Would you listen again? Just know I tried to find some kind of piece of mind, But I’m Out Of Time, I’m just Out Of Time…

Dark Clouds 05:45
Another day, another day, I could never get my way, And never get a break, And it always feels the same ‘cause no matter where I go, It always feels like I’m waiting… You say my dark clouds got a silver lining, But I can’t find it, If you could look through my eyes, see where it’s hiding I could use reminding, But all the time, all the time, It’s the passing I don’t like, Like I can’t get off the ride, And it’s wrecking up my mind, If I can’t see through the sky, Why should I even try? You say my dark clouds got a silver lining, But I can’t find it, If you could look through my eyes, see where it’s hiding I could use reminding, And though my dark cloud’s got a silver lining, I’ll keep on shining It’s darkest before the dawn, but the Sun is rising, And I’m still tryin’, The end like a Godsend’s coming down, Oh can’t you hear the sound? When time’s standing still, will I have the will To get up off the ground? You say my dark clouds got a silver lining, But I can’t find it, If you could look through my eyes, see where it’s hiding I could use reminding, And though my dark cloud’s got a silver lining, I’ll keep on shining It’s darkest before the dawn, but the Sun is rising, And I’m still tryin’, I’m still trying…

The Dragon 06:03
Shocked awake by twisted din, The Dragon comes to fly again, A beast unlike the elders said, Raining fire and shots of lead, I see my home burn to the ground, And hear the most ungodly sound, My people die and temples burn, Our lives undone by wretched wyrm, No one knows what justifies, The mind behind its soulless eyes, Nothing’s left, it’s much too late I have to try and escape my fate, The days turn into weeks, but weeks can pass away- While the desert sun beats I wander through the waste, The Horizon gives me reason to carry on, I cannot rest until I see the Dragon dead and gone, I find a band of refugees With stories much like mine, They tell tales of an iron beast That came down from the sky, But in a foreign tongue that I don’t fully understand, They tell me that the Dragon is a weapon of man With weapons I have never seen, That harness dragon’s fire, We go to hunt the deadly fiend, And fulfill my one desire, And on this night I will have my revenge, Because either way I’ll meet my end, With sky on fire, we meet again, I’ve found a way to settle the score And developed taste for modern war, We kill the beast and bring it down, I was not prepared for what I found…

Caught travelling a Lonesome Road, World’s weight is all on your soul, Can’t find a direction home, But can you find anything at all? Keep on walking until one day, You find something that’s in your way, It don’t matter what you say, You going to climb or are you going to fall? Why’d you have to build up so high? Can’t see to either side, So hopeless the devil cried, “Tear down this Fucking Wall” What you see is what you don’t get, Forget about it and you’ll be set, Try to live just without regret, And get back into the grind, Let me say it just one more time, All your trouble ain’t worth a dime, If I have to find you just one more rhyme, I might lose my worried mind, Let me say it just one more time…

I think I’m ready and I want to go, So let me take you to the Midnight Show, But babe, before you walk on out that door, There’s something that I got to let you know, And when you’ve taken my hand, Oh, Little Girl I’ll make you understand, There’s something burning deep within my soul, A fire bright but black as blackest coal, You know sometimes it makes me lose control, Can’t say I’m sorry that’s just how I roll, But when I look in your eyes, Oh darlin’, it’s like a lullaby, you know it soothes my mind, So I want to see you move, and I want to make you cry, But I got a lot to prove before you go and say goodbye, Take my hand and give me a little more time, So maybe when it’s over I can make you mine, So let me take you to the Midnight Show, We’ll have some fun and see some Rock and Roll, Just lose yourself when you get in the flow, Got no idea where the night will go, Oh and when I see you sleeping at night, Oh, even though the sun don’t shine, I think I still see the light…

On That Day 05:20
From the day you were born and given life, When your mother held you every night, When everything in your world was right, Did you ever have to wonder why? From the day you made your first new friend, And you said it would be until the end, Maybe you just didn’t comprehend, How soon forever passes by? On the day you leave out on your own, You may find yourself so far from home, And the world has began to spin out of your control, But was it really ever at any time?
